A visit to an Irish blanket bog in winter provided an unusual combination of frozen grasses, dense fog and near complete stillness. In this smaller version of Winter Blanket Bog, attention stays close to the vegetation underfoot as its lines and muted colours fade towards an uncertain horizon. The painting holds the intimacy of standing in that landscape while familiar distances disappear. A larger companion work extends the same experience across a more expansive surface.
