Swan Journey imagines an Irish landscape seen from above, perhaps through the perspective suggested by its title. Fields, waterways and vegetation merge into a network of gold, green and dark lines. As the eye moves through the composition, the forms grow more fragmented, inviting thoughts of growth, decline and a changing environment. Flecks of silver break through the layers and complicate any single reading of the scene. Elsewhere in the collection I stand inside a woodland or look across a harbour; here the distance opens the land to abstraction.
