Welcome to Chanbhas, the home of my original paintings and artwork.
I am Sean Byrne, an Irish artist working between Swords in North County Dublin, Aughrim in County Wicklow, and the small village of Err in the French Pyrenees.
I have been drawing and painting for more than 50 years, and my work is strongly influenced by the landscapes and environments around me — from the woodlands, bogs and coastline of Ireland to the mountains and changing light of the Pyrenees.
My paintings combine traditional techniques with contemporary processes. I work principally with acrylic and mixed media, building colour, texture and detail in layers. My long involvement with digital technology has also become part of the creative process, sometimes helping me explore composition, colour and ideas before they develop further on the physical surface.
Much of my work begins with a recognisable place or element of the natural landscape, but I am increasingly interested in exploring the boundary between representation and abstraction — capturing not simply how a landscape looks, but something of its atmosphere, texture and character.
Each original painting is unique. Once an original work is sold, there is only one physical original in existence.
If you are interested in acquiring a painting, would like to discuss a commission, or simply have a question about my work, I would be delighted to hear from you.
