Glass Bead – Afterlight is the quietest of the five paintings made from a rain blurred view through a bus window. A golden upper passage gives way to cooler blues and greys, while traces of red remain below. The source city is still present, but it is experienced as an afterimage rather than a set of recognisable streets. The painting follows what lingers when the original moment has passed: a quality of light, a colour and the memory of looking out through wet glass.
