Glass Bead – Red Garden developed from the same wet bus journey as the other works in the series. Reflections and water unsettle the outlines of the city, allowing a vivid red form and surrounding greens to suggest leaves, flowers or roots. The garden of the title is imagined within an urban environment, where cultivation, weather and accidental growth meet. Its organic energy gives this painting a different mood from Signal or Ember while retaining the series’ uncertain boundary between natural and constructed forms.
