Impasto in the Darkness is built from dense texture and gestural marks rather than a particular view. Fiery reds push against black and muted grey, while a narrow passage of light interrupts the centre. The surface may suggest rock, scorched earth or a landscape under pressure, but none of these readings is fixed.
