Strong shafts of sunlight are the subject of this painting from the Ushers Lake series. On a walk in November 2020, low sun broke through the woodland canopy in unusually clear beams, illuminating leaves and drawing the eye into the trees. The contrast between the dark foreground and the warm light gives this work a more direct energy than its two companions. Together, the three paintings describe distinct moments from the same walk, when the familiar landscape was briefly transformed.
